San Ignacio to Placencia and Hopkins: Shuttle Prices, Drive Times and the Bus via Belmopan

Verified on 24 September 2026, on the rate cards and route pages of seven transfer operators and a Hopkins resort’s driving directions. The bus times come from a 2019 government timetable and a bus company’s own site, and are dated where they appear.

San Ignacio to Placencia is a road trip: we found no airline serving San Ignacio. For two people, one way, a private transfer costs US$238.50 to US$260.00 on four operators’ published rate cards; a fifth prints US$275 in a way that can be read per vehicle or per person, and a sixth quotes “from ~$185–$265”. To Hopkins, two people pay US$187.88 to US$200.00. The operators give the drive to Placencia as anything from 2.5 to 5 hours — San Ignacio Shuttle Service says about 3.5 hours from San Ignacio town on one page, and on another “about 4 to 5 hours, depending on your starting point”, for a start in Belize City or San Ignacio. On a 2019 timetable, the bus via Belmopan and Dangriga takes about 5 hours 15 minutes.

Four of the five fixed prices for two sit within US$21.50 of each other; the drive-time figures are further apart, with the highest double the lowest.

Private transfer prices, one way

San Ignacio → Placencia

All USD. Every total is our arithmetic on the operator’s own tiers. Cahal Pech’s figures include 12.5% tax that we have added, because its card lists prices before tax and says they are taxable; without it the card reads $212.00 for one or two and $312.00 for four. Cayo Inland’s card says its prices already include the tax. Untame Belize’s page contradicts itself — “/pp” beside “1-3 pax” plus a per-person add-on — so we show both readings and pick neither.

The lowest price changes with party size. We priced every size from one to four, not just the ends. At one and two people Cahal Pech is lowest, US$1.50 under Julian Transfers once tax is added. At three, Julian is lowest at US$240.00, then Cayo Inland US$270.00, Untame US$275.00 (vehicle reading), Pacz US$280.00 and Cahal Pech US$294.75. At four, Julian’s US$265.00 leads, and Cahal Pech’s US$351.00 is the dearest of the five cards apart from Untame’s per-person reading.

San Ignacio → Hopkins

Pacz Tours lists San Ignacio to “Placencia & Hopkins” as a route but prints no Hopkins price; San Ignacio Shuttles quotes on request; BZ Shuttle Service lists its Hopkins–San Ignacio shuttle at 0. Across one to four people the order is the same as for Placencia: Cahal Pech lowest at one and two, Julian lowest at three (US$200.00, against Cayo Inland’s US$225.00 and Cahal Pech’s US$232.88) and four. Hopkins and Placencia on one trip. Julian Transfers also sells Hopkins to Placencia at "$110 for 1 to 3 Persons ($15 Additional per person)", and San Ignacio Shuttles puts that drive at 1 hour. San Ignacio to Hopkins and then on to Placencia on Julian’s two fares is US$310.00 for up to three people, against US$240.00 direct — our arithmetic. How long the drive takes

We are not picking a number. San Ignacio Shuttles publishes two different Placencia figures on two of its own live pages — the home-page one covers a start in Belize City or San Ignacio — and the 4-to-5-hour one is the figure quoted on our Placencia page, which sets out the same spread for the drive from Belize City.

The road, as the operators describe it. BZ Shuttle Service routes Placencia to San Ignacio north on the Southern Highway, onto the Hummingbird Highway to Belmopan, “And then west on the Western Highway for about 1 hour”, with “no stops along the way for this shuttle except restroom breaks upon request to your driver. (IF it’s a shared shuttle)”. Hamanasi, a Hopkins-area resort, gives its guests driving from San Ignacio these legs:

It warns: “Please note that there are many one-lane bridges on the Hummingbird Highway. Please be alert!”, and says the Shell station just before the Southern Highway “is the last gas station before Hamanasi”. Adding BZ Shuttle Service’s hour on the Western Highway to Hamanasi’s three legs gives about 2 hours 55 minutes and 64 miles plus the unmeasured Western Highway stretch to Hopkins village — our arithmetic across two sources. None of the sources we read gives a total road distance from San Ignacio to Placencia.

By bus: San Ignacio → Belmopan → Dangriga → Placencia

The only timetables we found are old: a Department of Transport schedule dated April 2019, hosted by the Belmopan directory belmopanonline.com (which says it does not provide bus-schedule information itself and refers questions to the Department of Transport, 802-2038), and Ritchie’s Bus Service’s own site, which is an Internet Archive replay of a 22 April 2016 capture with a rate page last modified 28 May 2020.

On the 2019 timetable, the morning connection runs:

That is about 5 hours 15 minutes from San Ignacio to Placencia, against 2.5 to 5 hours by transfer — our arithmetic on the 2019 times. The later run is Ritchie’s own “Belmopan to Placencia 4:45 pm”, which the 2019 timetable also carries: Dangriga 6:15pm, then Placencia printed as “8:00am”, which the sequence suggests is a misprint for the evening.

Fares. Ritchie’s rate card: “Placencia - Belmopan $16.00 BZD”, “Placencia -Dangriga $10.00 BZD”, “Dangriga - Belmopan $6.00 BZD”, with “2 BZD = 1 USD” — so US$8.00 Belmopan to Placencia. None of the operators we read publishes a San Ignacio–Belmopan bus fare. Ritchie’s says “We do not take reservations for seats… You pay the conductor on the bus.”

Hopkins by bus needs a change at Dangriga, and the two dated sources disagree. The 2019 timetable has a Bryant Williams service that “Will go into Hopkins” leaving Dangriga at 5:30am and 8:30am — both before the morning chain above reaches Dangriga. The Belize Bus and Travel Guide, in a post dated 16 January 2020 whose Hopkins section is marked “updated Oct 2016”, gives buses from Dangriga to Hopkins at 10:30 am and 5:15 pm Monday to Saturday and 5:15 pm only on Sunday, fare BZ$5, “taxi fare is about BZ$80”. The 2019 timetable also shows a Mateo Polanco bus leaving Belmopan at 3:45pm and due in Dangriga at 5:15pm — the same minute as that guide’s last Hopkins departure.

Coming back, Ritchie’s lists Placencia to Dangriga at 7:00am, 12:45 pm and 2:30 pm Monday to Saturday and 2:30pm on Sunday, "(Connect here for Belmopan, San Ignacio and Belize City)", and a Belmopan-to-San Ignacio connection. Its 6:15 am Placencia–Belize City bus is due in Belmopan at 9:15am on the 2019 timetable.

Flying

Tropic Air’s own list of the places it flies — Belize City’s two airports, Caye Caulker, Dangriga/Hopkins, Placencia, Punta Gorda and San Pedro among its Belize stops — has no San Ignacio airport, and we found no flight between the Cayo District and the south coast. A flight to Placencia or Dangriga starts with the drive to Belize City, priced on our Belize City to San Ignacio page; the flights themselves are on our Placencia to Belize City page.

What the operators don’t publish

• A per-seat fare on a scheduled shared shuttle. None of the operators we read on 24 September 2026 publishes one for this route.
• Exact prices from San Ignacio Shuttle Service (a range and “contact for exact quote”) and any price from BZ Shuttle Service (its store lists these shuttles at 0).
• A San Ignacio–Placencia road distance, or a driving time for the San Ignacio–Belmopan leg other than BZ Shuttle Service’s “about 1 hour” (the 2019 bus timetable gives the bus 45 minutes to 1 hour).
• A current bus timetable for the Western or Southern zone, and any San Ignacio–Belmopan bus fare.
