Placencia to San Pedro and Caye Caulker: The Flight With No Public Fare, and the Road-and-Boat Route

Verified on 24 September 2026, on Tropic Air’s public route pages, two transfer operators’ rate pages, Ritchie’s Bus Service’s own site and both water-taxi companies’ booking systems, for boat travel on Wednesday 14 October 2026.

We cannot give you a Placencia to San Pedro airfare, because on 24 September 2026 Tropic Air did not display one. It has route pages for Placencia to San Pedro and to Caye Caulker, both ways, and every one showed “No result for this month.” from September 2026 to February 2027; its booking engine answered with a CAPTCHA page. The route that is priced end to end is road plus boat: a private transfer to Belize City, then a water taxi — US$346.00–353.48 for two people to San Pedro and US$336.00–342.38 to Caye Caulker, one way. By Ritchie’s bus (BZ$20.00 each, on a rate card last modified in 2020) and a boat, the whole trip fits into one day on paper, for US$91.00–98.48 for two to San Pedro before a taxi across Belize City.

So the flight is sold but not priced in public, and every option we could price end to end runs by road through Belize City.

What it costs, one way

All totals are our arithmetic on these published figures:

• Transfers to Belize City. Julian Transfers: “Placencia to Belize City Transfer - $275 for 1 to 3 Persons ($25 Additional per person)”. Pacz Tours: “Placencia ➔ Belize City $275 USD” for two guests, +US$20 per extra person. At four people that is US$300.00 on Julian and US$315.00 on Pacz; Pacz publishes no one-person rate, so the one-person row is Julian’s. Julian’s separate airport-transfer listing shows US$265, a conflict set out on our Placencia to Belize City page.
• Bus. Ritchie’s Bus Service: “Placencia - Belize $20.00 BZD” and “2 BZD = 1 USD”, so US$10.00 a person at its own rate.
• Boat, one way on 14 October 2026. San Pedro Belize Express: USD 34.00 to San Pedro and USD 29.00 to Caye Caulker, plus the Internet Processing Fee (11% of the ticket subtotal) and US$1.50-per-passenger Port Authority Fee its checkout displayed, so US$39.24 and US$33.69 for one adult. Caribbean Sprinter: US$35.50–37.00 to San Pedro and US$30.50–32.00 to Caye Caulker by departure, which it says include “all ancillary fees, charges and applicable government fees & taxes”. The four-person boat figures apply the same per-person fares and the same 11% and US$1.50 per passenger.

In the transfer columns, the low end of each cell is the cheaper transfer with Caribbean Sprinter’s lowest fare and the high end the dearer transfer with San Pedro Belize Express; in the bus columns, the range is the boat’s. The bus totals leave out the taxi from the bus to the water-taxi terminals, which no primary source we read prices; a 2020 route guide, the Belize Bus and Travel Guide, put a taxi between two points within Belize City at “BZ$5 to $10 depending on distance”. The flight: sold, scheduled on paper, not priced

Tropic Air. Its home page lists Placencia, San Pedro, Caye Caulker and Dangriga/Hopkins among the places it flies, carries tiles reading “PLACENCIA - PLJ / DAILY FLIGHTS” and “SAN PEDRO / HOURLY FLIGHTS”, and says: “Spend the morning snorkeling the Belize Barrier Reef, explore the colorful streets of San Pedro or Caye Caulker in the afternoon, and enjoy dinner in Placencia the same evening.” Its flight-deal site has six route pages for this corridor — Placencia to San Pedro, Placencia to Caye Caulker, San Pedro to Placencia, Caye Caulker to Placencia, Dangriga to San Pedro and San Pedro to Dangriga. All six load. Viewed in a web browser on 24 September 2026, each one showed “No result for this month.” on every month from September 2026 to February 2027, and “There are no fares that match your filter criteria.” in its fare panels.

None of the Tropic Air pages we read says whether Placencia to San Pedro flies nonstop or changes in Belize City, or how long it takes. When we last used Tropic Air’s booking engine, on 6 September 2026, San Pedro and Caye Caulker appeared in its list of destinations from Placencia, but we did not price that pair; on 24 September the engine served a CAPTCHA page and we did not use it.

Why we have not added two fares together. The same site did show cached prices on neighbouring routes: “From USD $ 290” round trip from the international airport (BZE) to Placencia, for 9–17 October 2026; “From USD $ 67” round trip BZE to San Pedro, for a same-day out-and-back on 10 October; and “From USD $ 210” round trip BZE to Caye Caulker, for 20–25 October. Each carries the note that fares “have been collected within the last 48hrs and may no longer be available at time of booking”. They are round trips, on different dates, on other routes. Adding them would not produce a Placencia–San Pedro one-way fare, so we have not.

Maya Island Air says it flies to “San Pedro, Dangriga (Hopkins), and Placencia” and that Placencia “is only a forty minute flight”, without saying from which Belize City airport. Its booking site refused our requests (HTTP 403) on 6 September 2026, so no Maya fare could be read. Its timetable graphics, all served with a Last-Modified date of 8 February 2023, give this paper connection — our reading of those 2023 sheets, not a bookable itinerary:

If the forty minutes applies to the municipal airstrip, the 7:00 AM from Placencia lands about 7:40 AM, 50 minutes before that 8:30 AM San Pedro departure — our arithmetic. Tropic Air requires check-in at least 30 minutes before a domestic flight. Both airlines’ networks are compared on our Belize domestic flights page.

By road and water taxi

The drive to Belize City is published four ways:

We are not choosing between them; our Placencia page sets out the wider disagreement across more operators. BZ Shuttle Service and San Ignacio Shuttles publish no price for this run.

Making the last boat. San Pedro Belize Express’s last Belize City departure is 5:30 PM — “The last vessel leaves at 5:30 pm sharp” — and it asks passengers to arrive at least 30–45 minutes early; Caribbean Sprinter’s last is 5:40 PM. Working back from the 5:30 PM with each source’s drive time, our arithmetic:

The earlier end of each row assumes the longer drive and 45 minutes at the terminal. The last boats reach Caye Caulker at 6:15 PM (San Pedro Belize Express, on its FAQ’s 45 minutes) or about 6:25 PM (Caribbean Sprinter), and San Pedro at 7:00 PM or about 6:55 PM.

BZ Shuttle Service’s water-taxi pages also say “There’s always a water taxi every 3o mins to 1 hour” and name ferry companies that do not match the two whose booking systems we used. On those two operators’ own timetables, the gap between Belize City departures is up to 1 hour 30 minutes even with both lines combined — 9:00 to 10:30 AM, 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, 12:00 to 1:30 PM, 1:30 to 3:00 PM and 3:00 to 4:30 PM. That is our arithmetic.

By bus and boat in one day

Ritchie’s Bus Service runs one through bus each way between Placencia and Belize City, the same timetable Monday to Saturday and Sunday:

• North: “Placencia to Belize City 6:15 am (Stops in Dangriga, Belmopan then Belize City - arrives around 10:30 - 11am)”. The Department of Transport’s April 2019 southern timetable has the same run arriving Belize City at 10:45 am. The first boats after that arrival window are San Pedro Belize Express at 12:00 PM (Caye Caulker 12:45 PM, San Pedro 1:30 PM) and Caribbean Sprinter at 1:30 PM (Caye Caulker about 2:15 PM, San Pedro about 2:45 PM).
• South: “Belize City to Placencia 3:30 pm”. Boats that reach Belize City before it: from San Pedro, San Pedro Belize Express’s 1:00 PM (arrives 2:30 PM) or Caribbean Sprinter’s 1:00 PM (about 2:15 PM); from Caye Caulker, the 1:30 PM on either line (about 2:15 PM, on San Pedro Belize Express’s 45-minute FAQ time and Caribbean Sprinter’s printed arrival). Ritchie’s publishes no arrival time in Placencia for the 3:30 pm. The 2019 government timetable prints “8:00am” for it, after a 6:30pm departure from Dangriga, so the printed time appears to be a misprint for the evening.

Both connections are our arithmetic on the operators’ times. Check the bus before you rely on it: Ritchie’s rate page is served with a Last-Modified date of 28 May 2020, and the site itself is an Internet Archive replay of a 22 April 2016 capture of itself. Ritchie’s states “We do not take reservations for seats… You pay the conductor on the bus”, telephone 501-523-3806. The full fare card and its dating are on our Placencia to Belize City page.

There is no direct boat on this route that we could find. None of the operator sites we read on 24 September 2026 offers a scheduled boat between Placencia or Hopkins and the northern cayes; the Placencia-area water taxi covered in our earlier research runs between Placencia and Independence, across the lagoon.

From Hopkins or Dangriga

Hopkins has the same two choices and the same missing airfare, with a shorter drive on San Ignacio Shuttles’ figures.

• Road: Julian Transfers prices its private Belize City–Hopkins transfer at "$210 for 1 to 3 Persons ($25 Additional per person)", described as a transfer “from Belize City, water taxi to Hopkins Village”. San Ignacio Shuttles gives Hopkins Village to Belize City as 3 hours and Dangriga to Belize City as 2 hours; BZ Shuttle Service gives Hopkins to the Belize City water taxi as “approximately 2.5 -3 hours”. For two people, Julian plus the boat is US$281.00–288.48 to San Pedro and US$271.00–277.38 to Caye Caulker; for one, US$245.50–249.24 and US$240.50–243.69; for four, US$377.00–391.96 and US$357.00–369.76. All our arithmetic.
• Air: Tropic Air flies to Dangriga, which it calls the Hopkins airstrip, “several times a day from the Belize City International and Municipal airports as well as Placencia and Punta Gorda”, and says “Hopkins is a small village about a 40 minute drive from town”. Its Dangriga to San Pedro and San Pedro to Dangriga route pages showed no fares either. Julian’s private Dangriga–Hopkins transfer is "$60 for 1 to 3 Persons ($10 Additional per person)".

What the operators don’t publish

• Any Placencia, Hopkins or Dangriga to San Pedro or Caye Caulker airfare. Tropic Air’s six route pages showed no fares for September 2026 to February 2027; its booking engine served our search a CAPTCHA on 24 September 2026; Maya Island Air’s booking site returned HTTP 403 on 6 September 2026.
• Whether Tropic Air’s Placencia–San Pedro flight is nonstop, and its flight time.
• A current bus timetable. Ritchie’s own site is a 2016 archive copy with a 2020 rate card; the Department of Transport timetable is from April 2019.
• A primary-source price for the taxi between the Belize City bus stop and the water-taxi terminals.
• Any price from BZ Shuttle Service or San Ignacio Shuttles for Placencia or Hopkins to the water taxi: the first lists its shuttles at 0, the second quotes on request.

How we researched this

On 24 September 2026 we opened Tropic Air’s six Placencia/Dangriga–cayes route pages and its BZE to Placencia, San Pedro and Caye Caulker pages in a web browser and recorded what they displayed; we read its home page, Dangriga page and check-in policy. We did not use its booking engine, which served a CAPTCHA; the destination-list observation is from our 6 September 2026 session on it. Maya Island Air’s claims are from its home and Placencia pages, its times from its schedule graphics, whose 2023 dates come from the images’ own HTTP headers; the 403 is from 6 September 2026 and was not retried. Transfer prices are from Julian Transfers’ Placencia and Hopkins pages and Pacz Tours’ transfer page; drive times from San Ignacio Shuttle Service’s water-taxi table and BZ Shuttle Service’s Placencia and Hopkins water-taxi pages. The bus times and fare are from Ritchie’s own schedule and rate pages and the 2019 Department of Transport PDF. San Pedro Belize Express’s fares and fees are from its ticketing system’s passenger step for one and two adults on 14 October 2026, displayed in a web browser; we did not continue to payment. Caribbean Sprinter’s fares and arrivals are from one-person searches on its booking engine for the same date.
