Belize City Airport (BZE) to San Pedro: Flight vs Water Taxi, Priced Door to Door

Water taxis verified live on 24 September 2026, on both operators’ own booking systems, for travel on Wednesday 14 October 2026. Tropic Air’s figures are older: they come from its booking engine on 26 August and 6 September 2026, for travel on Wednesday 16 September 2026. When we returned on 24 September its engine showed a bot-check page instead of results, so they could not be re-checked.

By water taxi, airport to San Pedro, one adult: Caribbean Sprinter US$50.50–52.00 including its US$15 airport shuttle; San Pedro Belize Express US$64.24 including its transfer and the two fees its checkout adds to the USD 34.00 fare. Sprinter is the cheaper of the two at every party size from one to four. Tropic Air flies from the international airport itself: 13 minutes nonstop and USD 110.00 one way on all 15 departures its engine showed for 16 September 2026. San Pedro Belize Express runs 8 sailings at 1 hour 30 minutes; Caribbean Sprinter runs 6 at approximately 75 minutes. Both ferry terminals are in Belize City, not at the airport, which is why each operator sells a separate transfer — about 25 minutes, by San Pedro Belize Express’s account.

For one adult, that Tropic Air fare is US$45.76–59.50 more than either water taxi door to door — our arithmetic — and what it saves is a transfer of about 25 minutes plus a crossing of 75 to 90 minutes, on the operators’ own times.

From Belize City to San Pedro

From San Pedro back to Belize City

The two sides of these tables are not from the same date. Tropic Air’s times come from its booking engine for Wednesday 16 September 2026 — 15 departures out, read on 26 August and again on 6 September 2026, and 16 back, read on 26 August. Every BZE to San Pedro flight that day was nonstop at 13 minutes; on the return, the 6:00 AM was the only one that was not direct, shown as “1 Stop via CUK” and 20 minutes. Its engine could not be re-read on 24 September 2026, so treat these as the airline’s weekday pattern in September, not as a confirmed October timetable.

San Pedro Belize Express’s times come from its printed schedule and were confirmed departure for departure against its live booking engine for Wednesday 14 October 2026. Caribbean Sprinter’s come from its booking system for the same date, and match its sailings page. Starting from a Belize City terminal rather than the airport, the crossing alone is priced on our Belize City to San Pedro water taxi page.

The last boat off the island is 4:30 PM (San Pedro Belize Express; Caribbean Sprinter’s last is 4:00 PM); the last Tropic Air flight off it on 16 September was 5:00 PM. In the other direction, the last sailing to San Pedro is Caribbean Sprinter’s 5:40 PM and the last 16 September flight was Tropic Air’s 5:40 PM. San Pedro Belize Express stops earlier, at 5:30 PM.

Fares, one way

One adult. The water taxis were priced on 24 September 2026 for travel on 14 October 2026; Tropic Air on 26 August and 6 September 2026 for travel on 16 September 2026.

Tropic Air returned USD 110.00 on every one of the 15 outbound and 16 return departures for 16 September. San Pedro Belize Express shows USD 34.00 on all eight sailings in both directions; its checkout then adds an Internet Processing Fee — set in the checkout page’s code as 11% of the ticket subtotal, displayed as US$3.74 for one adult — and a Port Authority Fee of US$1.50 per passenger. US$34.00 + US$3.74 + US$1.50 is the US$39.24 in the table, our arithmetic. Caribbean Sprinter varies by departure: outbound 08:00 US$36.50, 10:30 US$35.50, 13:30 US$36.00, 15:00 US$36.50, 16:30 US$37.00, 17:40 US$37.00; returning 06:00 US$35.50, 07:00 US$37.00, 08:00 US$36.50, 10:00 US$36.50, 13:00 US$35.50, 16:00 US$37.00. Sprinter states its rates are total per passenger “including all ancillary fees, charges and applicable government fees & taxes”, and that there are “no processing fees or charges”.

The cost the ferry fare doesn’t include

The ferry terminals are not at the international airport, and both operators sell the transfer separately — about 25 minutes, by San Pedro Belize Express’s own account. San Pedro Belize Express charges USD 25.00 for the first person and USD 10.00 for each additional — its checkout showed US$25.00, US$35.00, US$45.00 and US$55.00 at one to four passengers. Caribbean Sprinter charges $15 USD per person.

Our arithmetic from those published figures, one way, airport to San Pedro, adult passengers. Belize Express = fare + both checkout fees + transfer; Sprinter = fare + shuttle; Tropic Air = the 16 September fare alone:

Sprinter’s totals span a range because its ferry fare changes with the sailing. We computed every departure at every party size: Sprinter is the cheaper water taxi on all six of its departures at all four party sizes, and the gap narrows as the group grows.

The transfers alone point the other way for bigger groups — Sprinter’s is cheaper at one and two passengers, the two tie at three (US$45.00), and Belize Express’s is cheaper at four (US$55.00 against US$60.00) — but Belize Express’s two checkout fees outweigh that at every size we priced.

One caveat on the Belize Express fee. The fee figures above are what its passenger step displays in a browser. The page’s underlying code carries larger figures for groups before its own script replaces them — US$14.96 for two adults and US$33.66 for three. We stopped before the payment step, so which figure is finally charged to a group is something we have not seen; the larger figures would only widen Sprinter’s lead.

Tropic Air is the dearest at every party size in this table, and it is the only one of the three that needs no transfer at all: the fare is airport to island.

Correction, 24 September 2026: an earlier version of this table left out Belize Express’s two checkout fees and showed it as the cheaper operator for three and four adults. With the fees included, it is not.

The Saturday fare

On the flexible-date strips we read, Tropic Air showed USD 33.88 for BZE to San Pedro on Sunday 13 and Saturday 19 September 2026 (read 6 September) and again on Sunday 20 and Saturday 26 September (read 9 September), and USD 33.00 for San Pedro to BZE on Saturday 19 September (read 26 August) — against USD 110.00 on every weekday in the same strips. We could not read any strip on 24 September 2026, so whether the pattern holds for later weekends is not something we can tell you.

Two things to keep straight about that number. The strip is a “From USD” figure, so it is the lowest fare offered on the date rather than the price of every departure. And the booking engine displays no fare class or condition behind it, so we cannot tell you whether it is a promotional bucket, a resident fare or an ordinary weekend price. On those dates it undercut even the ferry fare on its own — USD 33.88 against Belize Express’s advertised USD 34.00 — before the airport transfer is counted.

The airline’s three different headline numbers

The same airline advertises this route in three places, and they do not agree:

We are deliberately not printing the widget’s number. It carries its own disclaimer — “Fares displayed have been collected within the last 48hrs and may no longer be available at time of booking” — and when we compared the two on 26 August 2026 it labelled a round trip at less than half the one-way fare the live booking engine returned that day, which cannot be reconciled. The widget and its disclaimer were still there on 24 September 2026. A figure we would have to surround with a warning is a figure that travels without the warning attached, so it stays off the page. Use the engine’s numbers above; they are the ones you can actually book.

How long each takes

San Pedro Belize Express’s booking engine shows “1h, 30m” on every sailing in both directions — an 8:00 AM departure arriving 9:30 AM — and its own San Pedro page repeats it as “just a short 1 hour 30 minute ride from Belize City”. Caribbean Sprinter’s booking results page states that “The sailing duration for Belize City to San Pedro is approximately 75 minutes”, its sailings page gives “1h 15m ± 10 min”, and its engine prints an approximate arrival 75 minutes after every departure. These are two operators describing their own boats, not a contradiction: Sprinter’s is the faster of the two by about 15 minutes. Water-taxi times checked 24 September 2026.

If you have an onward flight

Tropic Air published its own advice on the San Pedro to BZE results page when we searched on 26 August 2026, verbatim: “If you are traveling onward with another carrier from the Belize International Airport (BZE) we suggest you allow three (3) hours for your connection. Tropic Air will not be responsible for missed connections.”

Chartering a boat instead

Belize Private Express Water Taxi runs from the international airport straight to San Pedro for $100.00 US per person one way, minimum 6 passengers, or $150.00 US per person round trip, minimum 8 passengers, in 60 to 70 minutes. Departures run in hourly windows from 9AM–10AM through 6PM–7PM.

At its own six-passenger minimum that is US$600 one way for the group — against US$660 for six Tropic Air seats at the 16 September fare, US$310.44 for six people on San Pedro Belize Express (its checkout for six adults on 14 October showed a US$204.00 subtotal, a US$22.44 Internet Processing Fee, US$9.00 in Port Authority Fees and a US$75.00 transfer), and US$303.00–312.00 on Caribbean Sprinter with its shuttle — our arithmetic. Maya Island Air: priced only inside its booking engine

Maya Island Air states it operates “11 daily flights from Belize City and 3 from Corozal to San Pedro”. Its San Pedro page does not say whether “Belize City” means the international airport (BZE) or the municipal airstrip (TZA) — which is the single most useful thing it could have said, because a cross-city transfer separates them: Tropic Air’s own airport pages put the international airport 10 miles (16 km) outside Belize City at Ladyville, and the municipal airstrip about a mile (1.5 km) from downtown.

Its schedule page answers that only indirectly, and it answers it in pictures: the airline publishes its whole network as nine schedule graphics — a cover card headed “Seasonal flight schedule”, seven timetables and a reservations card. The one we transcribed here is Belize City Municipal ↔ San Pedro: to San Pedro at 07:30, 08:30, 09:30, 11:30 AM, 12:30, 01:30, 02:30, 04:30 and 05:30 PM, and back at 07:00, 08:00, 09:00, 11:00 AM, 12:00, 01:00, 02:00, 04:00 and 05:00 PM. A separate international-airport (BZE) → San Pedro graphic on the same page runs 10:40 AM to 5:40 PM plus two evening departures (6:30 and 7:30 PM) marked “SEASONAL” and “RESTRICTED FOR PASSENGERS ARRIVING VIA INTERNATIONAL CARRIERS” — transcribed on our 7-day Belize itinerary page.

All nine of those graphics are stale by the same amount. We requested every one on 26 August and again on 24 September 2026, and each came back with a Last-Modified date of Wed, 08 Feb 2023 — the files themselves unchanged. No later-dated timetable appears on the pages of its site we read, and its booking engine returned HTTP 403 to this page’s requests. Opened in a web browser through its own deep links on 24 September 2026, the same engine did list flights for Friday 2 October 2026, and they do not match the graphics: to San Pedro hourly from 07:40 to 17:40 from the international airport, “from 102.01 USD” one way, and at 07:30, 08:30, 10:30, 12:30, 14:30, 16:30 and 17:30 from the municipal airstrip, “from 67.00 USD”, with a 20:20 flight shown as “Sold out”. Treat the graphics as the airline’s standing published document and its engine as the check for your own date.

Terminals, and one domain to avoid

If you search for Ocean Ferry Belize, you may land on oceanferrybelize.com, which did not answer at all on 24 September 2026 — the connection timed out over both http and https — having served a Caribbean Sprinter maintenance page on 26 August. Caribbean Sprinter’s own sailings page gives its Belize City terminal as 10 N Front St., +501 223-0033, open 6:00AM – 6:30PM. The operator trades as Caribbean Sprinter LTD and books at sprinter.bz; Direct Ferries records it as “Caribbean Sprinter, formally known as Ocean Ferry Belize.”

What the operators don’t publish

• What the USD 33.00 / 33.88 Saturday fares are. The engine shows no fare class, no conditions and no explanation.
• Any Maya Island Air fare outside its booking engine. The pages of its public site we read on 24 September 2026 print no prices.
• Any Maya Island Air timetable a reader can date. It publishes nine schedule graphics covering both Belize City airports, and all nine carry a Last-Modified date of 8 February 2023. The site stamps no validity period on any of it.
• San Pedro Belize Express’s child fare, outside its checkout. The FAQ says ages 4 to 10 pay “a children’s rate” and states no amount; the booking engine’s passenger step shows it as USD 15.00 one way, Belize City to San Pedro (with one adult, the checkout added a US$5.39 Internet Processing Fee and US$3.00 in Port Authority Fees).
• An ordinary taxi fare from BZE to the water-taxi terminals. The airport’s official taxi service answers its own FAQ question “How Much Does It Cost?” with “We offer the best prices available” and no figure. Two shuttle operators do publish this leg: JETS Shuttle Belize at $30 for 2 passengers plus $15 per additional person, anywhere in Belize City “including the Belize water taxis”, and AQ Belize Shuttle at $30 USD for 2 passengers plus $15 USD per additional passenger, “International Airport To / From Water Taxi” — both read 24 September 2026.
• Any explanation of San Pedro Belize Express’s Internet Processing Fee outside its checkout: its FAQ and schedule, read 24 September 2026, do not mention it.

What we did not check

Separate from the list above, because these are our limits and not the operators':

• Round-trip fares on any of the three. We exercised every engine one way only, so we cannot tell you whether a return is discounted.
• Tropic Air on or after 24 September 2026. Its booking engine served a bot-check page instead of results when we returned that day, and we do not get past those. Every Tropic Air fare and time on this page is from 26 August or 6 September 2026 (the weekend strip also from 9 September), for September travel dates.
• The payment step. We did not complete a booking, so the amount finally charged by San Pedro Belize Express to a group — the displayed 11% fee or the larger figure in the page’s code — is not confirmed.
• A Maya Island Air fare for the dates on this page. Its booking engine returned HTTP 403 to this page’s requests. Opened in a web browser through its deep links on 24 September 2026, it showed “from 102.01 USD” one way from the international airport to San Pedro for Friday 2 October 2026 (“from 67.00 USD” from the municipal airstrip) — priced on our Belize City airports page.

How we researched this

Scope: this page reports source research, not an on-site test. We checked the booking systems, timetables and official sources named below on the date shown; calculations, unresolved disagreements and information we could not verify are labelled explicitly.

We ran one-way searches on both water-taxi operators’ own booking systems on 24 September 2026, for travel on Wednesday 14 October 2026. San Pedro Belize Express’s checkout was run at one to four adults, at six adults and at one adult with one child, both as raw page captures and in a real browser, stopping before payment. Tropic Air’s fares, flight times, departure lists, connection notice and weekend strips come from its live booking engine on 26 August, 6 September and 9 September 2026, for September travel dates; it could not be re-read on 24 September. Its separate fare-deals widget shows a lower round-trip “from” figure that we read but do not reproduce, because it contradicts the bookable fare and carries a 48-hour staleness disclaimer. The water-taxi fares, fees and durations come from the two operators’ live engines; San Pedro Belize Express’s departure times additionally come from its printed schedule, which matched the engine departure for departure.

The airport transfer prices come from San Pedro Belize Express’s FAQ and checkout and from Caribbean Sprinter’s shuttle page. The charter rates come from Belize Private Express Water Taxi’s own rate page, and the two shuttle prices for the airport-to-terminal leg from JETS Shuttle Belize’s and AQ Belize Shuttle’s own pages, all read 24 September 2026. Maya Island Air’s flight counts and timetable come from its own pages; the 8 February 2023 date comes from the HTTP metadata of the schedule images themselves, requested individually on 26 August and 24 September 2026 — all nine returned the same date both times. The Ocean Ferry status comes from live connection attempts on the retired domain plus Direct Ferries’ listing.

All the door-to-door arithmetic is ours, computed at every party size from one to four rather than at the endpoints, because the answer changes inside the range.
