Belize Airport (BZE) to Caye Caulker: Every Option, Priced Door to Door

Re-checked live on 24 September 2026, on both water-taxi operators’ own booking systems and the airport’s own passenger pages, for travel on Wednesday 7 October 2026. Tropic Air’s booking engine answered our searches for this route with a CAPTCHA page that day, so every flight fare and flight time on this page is from our 9 September 2026 search, for travel on 23 September 2026, and is marked as such.

Tropic Air flies it; two water-taxi companies will get you there by road and boat. Only the flight starts where you land. On 9 September 2026 Tropic Air’s engine showed BZE to Caye Caulker nonstop in 10 minutes for USD 110.00, six times a day — a fare we could not re-check on 24 September. Both water-taxi terminals are in Belize City, which the airport puts 10 miles away, so each operator sells a road transfer on top of the fare: Caribbean Sprinter works out at US$45.50–47.00 door to door for one adult, San Pedro Belize Express at US$58.69.

The airport end, not the crossing, is what separates the two boats. On their headline boat fares they are within US$3.00 of each other; by the time each has moved one adult from the terminal building to the island they are US$11.69–13.19 apart — and the operator with the higher fare is the cheaper journey.

What each option costs and how long it takes, one adult, one way

Tropic Air’s figure is the fare alone, because the flight leaves from the international airport itself. The water-taxi figures are our arithmetic: each operator’s own fare plus each operator’s own airport transfer, plus, on San Pedro Belize Express, the two fees its checkout displays. The two water-taxi rows were priced on 24 September 2026 for travel on 7 October 2026, and every fare and transfer price matched what both engines showed on 9 September; Tropic Air’s row is from 9 September 2026, for 23 September travel, and could not be re-checked on 24 September.

The same comparison at two, three and four adults

That is our arithmetic, computed at every party size from one to four and against every Sprinter departure rather than at the endpoints, because a comparison that holds at the ends can fail in the middle. It does not fail here: Caribbean Sprinter is cheapest at every party size on every sailing. The gap narrows with each person added, and at four adults Sprinter’s dearest sailing is US$1.76 below Belize Express. We did not price five or more.

The reason the gap narrows is the transfer. San Pedro Belize Express’s costs US$25.00 for the first person and US$10.00 for each additional one, against Caribbean Sprinter’s flat US$15.00 per person, so each extra passenger adds US$5.00 less to the Belize Express total on the road; on the water Belize Express’s fare plus fees stays a little above Sprinter’s. Its checkout displays an Internet Processing Fee of 11 per cent of the ticket subtotal — US$3.19 on one ticket, US$6.38 on two, US$9.57 on three and US$12.76 on four — plus a Port Authority Fee of US$1.50 per passenger; the percentage is our arithmetic on the displayed figures. Neither fee appears next to the fare in the sailing list; both appear once you have chosen a boat. The 11 is written into the fee’s row in the page’s code as incfees="11". That same code also carries larger fee figures, multiplied again by the number of passengers (US$51.04 at four), which the page’s own script replaces with the 11 per cent figure before anything is shown. We stopped at this step and did not reach payment, so we have not confirmed which amount is finally charged. The Airport Transfer line carries incfees="0", and the page’s script works out the 11 per cent from the ticket subtotal before it reaches the transfer line, so the door-to-door totals above add the transfer on top of the fee-inclusive ferry total. Caribbean Sprinter states the opposite arrangement on its own booking page: “Rates displayed are for the total trip cost per passenger, including all ancillary fees, charges and applicable government fees & taxes.”

Flying: the timetable, and what USD 110.00 buys

Every departure in both directions was shown as Nonstop with a travel time of 00h10, at USD 110.00, on Tropic Air’s own engine when we searched on 9 September 2026 for 23 September 2026. We tried to re-run that search on 24 September and the engine answered with a CAPTCHA page, so nothing in this section has been re-confirmed since 9 September.

Expanding a departure shows what that number is. USD 110.00 is the EVERYDAY fare: two personal items, one checked bag, one free change of date, time or route, non-refundable. Above it sit FLEXI at USD 130.88 (two checked bags, 75% refundable) and FLEXI PLUS at USD 154.38 (three checked bags, unlimited changes, 100% refundable, 15% off any Tropic tour). No cheaper LITE fare was offered on this route on this date.

There is no weekend fare to Caye Caulker

In that 9 September search, Tropic Air’s flexible-date strip returned USD 110.00 on all seven dates from Sunday 20 to Saturday 26 September 2026 on the Caye Caulker route. We then ran the airline’s San Pedro route as a control, in the same session, over the same seven dates: it returned USD 33.88 on that Sunday and that Saturday against USD 110.00 Monday to Friday. Same airline, same airport, same week, and the weekend figure exists on one island and not the other. The engine displays no fare class and no condition behind the USD 33.88, so we cannot tell you what it is — only that nothing like it appeared on the Caye Caulker route. The San Pedro side of that is priced in full on our BZE airport to San Pedro page.

The boats: what the airport end adds

Both water-taxi terminals sit in Belize City, not at the airport, and both companies sell the transfer separately.

San Pedro Belize Express’s transfer is not just a page price: it appears as its own step in the checkout, headed “Would you like to add Airport Transfer Service?”, and it asks for your flight carrier, flight number, date and time before it will add it. The alternative button is “Continue Without Transfer”. Its FAQ puts the drive at “approximately 25 minutes from the international airport to our terminal” and quotes private transfers by email.

Caribbean Sprinter publishes more about how its shuttle works than about how long it takes: air-conditioned vehicles, “Driver tracks your flight and waits with a sign bearing your name”, car seats at no extra charge on advance request, and seating available after customs. Its booking form asks for the arrival date, the airline and the flight number, and lists thirteen named airlines plus “Other”.

The boat fares themselves are US$29.00 on San Pedro Belize Express, identical on all eight sailings, and from US$30.50 to US$32.00 on Caribbean Sprinter depending on the departure. Both operators time the outbound crossing at 45 minutes; San Pedro Belize Express’s own engine shows 1 hour on the way back. The child fare. San Pedro Belize Express’s FAQ names a children’s category for ages 4 to 10 and never states the amount. It appears only after you pick a sailing, on the passenger step, as “WEB: [Belize City - Caye Caulker] OW Child (4 to 10) — $12.50 US”. One adult and one child on that crossing came to a US$41.50 subtotal, plus a displayed US$4.57 of internet fee and US$3.00 of port fee.

The last connection of the day, in both directions

Arriving. San Pedro Belize Express’s final sailing to Caye Caulker leaves Belize City at 5:30 PM, and its booking flow warns, verbatim: “Time Management is important, San Pedro Belize Express Water Taxi Limited will not be held liable for clients running late due to flight, immigration, or customs delays (The last vessel leaves at 5:30 pm sharp).” The same operator asks passengers to “Arrive at the SPBE Belize City terminal at least 30-45 minutes early” and puts its own transfer at about 25 minutes. Stacking the operator’s three published figures, that is a terminal arrival of roughly 4:45–5:00 PM and an airport departure of roughly 4:20–4:35 PM — our arithmetic, and it counts none of the time between the aircraft door and the kerb. Caribbean Sprinter’s last sailing is 5:40 PM, arriving 6:25 PM. Tropic Air’s last flight in the 9 September search was 5:40 PM, arriving 5:50 PM.

Leaving. This is where the modes separate hardest. In our 9 September search, Tropic Air’s last flight off Caye Caulker to the international airport departed 2:10 PM. San Pedro Belize Express’s last boat leaves at 5:00 PM and Caribbean Sprinter’s at 4:30 PM, both re-checked on 24 September — 2 hours 50 minutes and 2 hours 20 minutes later respectively, on our arithmetic from the three timetables. The boats land in Belize City and still need the road transfer; the flight lands at the airport itself.

Tropic Air printed its own advice on that 9 September results page, verbatim: “If you are traveling onward with another carrier from the Belize International Airport (BZE) we suggest you allow three (3) hours for your connection. Tropic Air will not be responsible for missed connections.”

The airport end itself

The airport puts the distance to downtown Belize City at 10 miles and its own opening hours at 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily, adding that “Beyond normal hours, services are available upon request.” Tropic Air and Maya Island Air both check in at Terminal 1. The airport asks passengers to arrive three to four hours before a scheduled departure.

On the date we checked, the airport was also serving a road advisory on its own pages: “Roadwork and dredging are currently underway on the airport access road leading to the Philip Goldson International Airport”, with drivers told to expect slower traffic and uneven surfaces and to “Leave extra time — allow additional time to buffer for airport trips.” The advisory names no end date and says updates will be posted as work progresses. Anything that reaches the water-taxi terminal by road runs on that stretch.

If you would rather just take a taxi

Here the trail runs out, and it runs out at the official source. The airport’s FAQ confirms the service exists — “Yes. Taxicabs are available and can be found outside the Airport Terminal Building during normal operating hours” — and quotes no fare. The airport’s own Travel & Ground Transportation page lists one travel agency and fifteen car-rental companies and no taxi operator at all. And the Ladyville Airport Taxi Union, which describes itself as “the only Official Transportation Service” of the airport and has run since 1985, answers the question on its own FAQ page like this: “How Much Does It Cost? We offer the best prices available.” We read its home page and its FAQ in full on 9 September and again on 24 September 2026; a /rates/ page returned HTTP 404 both times. Luggage, by mode

Tropic Air publishes dimensions and bag counts and no weight limit at all; Caribbean Sprinter publishes neither weight nor size. San Pedro Belize Express is the only one of the three that gives you a number to pack against. Its tags are colour-coded by destination — Caye Caulker orange — and it states that luggage not checked in is not its responsibility. Sprinter tags checked bags with barcodes tied to your itinerary ID, scanned on and off, available within a few minutes of docking, on vessels it describes as 60 to 110 passengers with at least two motors and V-shaped hulls.

Where each option leaves you on the island

Tropic Air lands at the Caye Caulker airstrip (CUK). San Pedro Belize Express’s engine names its island stop “Caye Caulker Pier”. Caribbean Sprinter’s Caye Caulker terminal is at Front Beach @ Calle del Sol, phone +501 613-0079, open 5:45 AM to 6:45 PM — an address that appears nowhere in the rendered text of its site and sits only in the map JavaScript in the page source. Its Belize City terminal is 10 N Front St., open 6:00AM to 6:30PM, on the same street as San Pedro Belize Express’s #111 North Front Street at the Belize Marine Terminal. What the operators don’t publish

These are gaps in their own information. We looked and they are not there:

• Any taxi fare from the airport to anywhere. The official airport taxi union answers the price question without a number; the airport lists no taxi operator on its ground-transport page.
• Any journey time for Caribbean Sprinter’s airport shuttle. It publishes the rate, the vehicle, the meeting arrangement and the car seats — and no duration.
• Any statement, in the visible text of San Pedro Belize Express’s site, of what the Internet Processing Fee is or how it is worked out. The checkout shows the amount; the 11 per cent rate appears only in the page’s code, and no note explains what the fee pays for.
• Any Caribbean Sprinter child or youth fare. Its search never asks passenger ages.
• Any Caribbean Sprinter luggage weight or size limit, and any Tropic Air checked-bag weight limit.
• Any Maya Island Air fare, on this route or any other. Its booking host returned HTTP 403 to our requests on 9 September and again on 24 September 2026, and its public site prints no price. What it does publish is its whole network as nine schedule graphics, and every one of those nine returned a Last-Modified date of 8 February 2023 when we requested them individually on 9 September and again on 24 September 2026. • Any end date for the airport access-road works.
• What Tropic Air’s USD 33.88 San Pedro weekend fare was. In the 9 September search the engine showed no fare class and no conditions behind it.

What we did not check

Separate from the list above, because these are our limits and not the operators’: we priced one travel date on each of our two check dates, plus, on 9 September, the seven-day strip Tropic Air displays around it; we ran every search as one adult except where a child or extra adults are named; we stopped each booking at the passenger step rather than paying, so a later step could add something we did not see; and we priced one-way only in each direction, so we cannot tell you whether a return is discounted on this route.

How we researched this

Scope: this page reports source research, not an on-site test. We checked the booking systems, timetables and official pages named below on 9 September 2026 and re-checked all of them except Tropic Air’s booking engine on 24 September 2026; calculations, unresolved disagreements and information we could not verify are labelled explicitly.

Tropic Air’s fares, departure and arrival times, flight durations, fare families and the seven-day fare strip come from three live one-way searches on the airline’s own booking engine, run in a browser on 9 September 2026 for travel on 23 September 2026: BZE to Caye Caulker, Caye Caulker to BZE, and BZE to San Pedro as a control on the same dates. The fare-family panel came from expanding the 8:40 AM departure. The connection notice was displayed on the Caye Caulker to BZE results page.

San Pedro Belize Express’s sailings, fares, arrival times, child fare and both checkout fees come from seven live searches through its own ticketing system on 9 September 2026, at one, two, three and four adults, one adult with one child, and in both directions, and from the same set re-run on 24 September 2026 for travel on 7 October 2026, which returned identical figures. The airport transfer prices come from the transfer step of that same checkout, which displayed a different total at each party size; the 25-minute drive time, the shared-transport rate and the children’s category come from its FAQ, the 30–45 minute arrival advice and the terminal address from its Belize City page, and the luggage rules from its Luggage, Cargo & Travel Information page. Caribbean Sprinter’s sailings, fares, arrival times and duration come from live searches on its own engine on both dates, with identical results; its shuttle terms from its shuttle booking page; its luggage and vessel details from its On-Board page; and its two terminal addresses and hours were read out of the map JavaScript in the source of its sailings page, which does not show them in its rendered text.

The airport distance, opening hours, terminal assignments, taxi answer, ground-transport list and road advisory come from the airport operator’s own Quick Facts, FAQ and Travel & Ground Transportation pages. The taxi finding comes from reading the Ladyville Airport Taxi Union’s home page and FAQ in full and from a request to its /rates/ path, which returned HTTP 404. Maya Island Air’s 8 February 2023 dates come from the HTTP metadata of its nine schedule image files, requested one by one; the 403 comes from a live request to its booking host.

The fee amounts are what the checkout page displayed after its own script had run, which we recorded by opening each of the six 24 September captures in a web browser; the 11 per cent rate is the incfees attribute on the fee’s row in that page’s code. The code before that script runs carries larger, passenger-multiplied figures. We did not reach payment.

All the party-size and last-connection arithmetic is ours, computed at every size from one to four and against every Sprinter departure rather than at the endpoints.
