Verified on 7 November 2026 on Belize Immigration’s Visitor’s Permit and Visa Who Qualify pages (immigration.gov.bz, re-read live in a browser), with the US State Department’s Belize page as a cross-check.
To stay in Belize beyond the 30 days you get on entry, you need a Visitor’s Permit Extension, and Belize Immigration prints its fee as BZ$200.00 for all nationals for each additional 30 days — “Fees with effect from 1 May 2020. All fees are in Belize dollars.” We re-read that page live on 7 November 2026 and the figure was unchanged. The US State Department independently says visitors staying longer than 30 days must “pay 100 USD a month at a Belize immigration office”, for “a maximum of 6 months”, after which “Visitors staying longer than 6 months may need to show extra documents to the local immigration office and likely need to pay additional fees.” Immigration’s instruction is to visit “your nearest Immigration Office” to find out whether you qualify.
The rule is simple and the price is flat — one fee, one 30-day block, the same for every nationality — but the site data for the page that sets it shows it was last modified on 3 December 2020, and we found no newer official figure.
The fee
| Item | As printed | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Visitor’s Permit Extension | BZ$200.00, for all nationals | Belize Immigration |
| Length of each extension | An additional 30 days | Belize Immigration |
| Effective date | “Fees with effect from 1 May 2020” | Belize Immigration |
| Currency | “All fees are in Belize dollars”; no US$ figure printed | Belize Immigration |
| Where to go | “your nearest Immigration Office” (to determine if you qualify) | Belize Immigration; the State Department says the fee is paid “at a Belize immigration office” |
| US government’s version | “100 USD a month”, also applying to minors, for “each additional month”, “a maximum of 6 months” | US State Department |
| Legal basis | No Statutory Instrument number printed | — |
The two figures appear to describe the same charge from two governments: Belize prints BZ$200.00 per 30 days and the State Department prints 100 USD a month. We have not converted between them; the State Department’s figure is its own. It also says: “Visit the Belize Immigration website for the most up to date information.”
Belize Immigration is the authority on this fee, and fees of this kind change by government decision; confirm it with the Immigration Department before you rely on it.
Who to contact
Belize Immigration (immigration.gov.bz)
- Headquarters, Belmopan: +(501) 822-3860
- WhatsApp: +(501) 610-2143
- Online contact form on its Contact Us page
- Immigration’s page says: “We are currently working on updating our contact information for the immigration offices and stations throughout the country.” It publishes no office addresses or opening hours, so we give none.
- The airport operator lists two further Immigration numbers: Belize City +(501) 222-4620 and International Airport +(501) 205-2214.
Immigration’s own instruction is: “To determine if you qualify for a Visitor’s Permit Extension visit your nearest Immigration Office.” The Belize Tourism Board says the same in fewer words: “an extension can be applied for with the Immigration Department.”
Who can extend, and on what conditions
Who qualifies. Immigration’s Visitor’s Permit page names persons who want to extend their holidays in Belize and persons investigating the possibilities of settlement; holders of a Belize visa may also qualify.
When it is needed. Immigration’s Visa Who Qualify page: “The permit required to extend your stay in Belize beyond the 30 days is the Belize Visitor’s Permit Extension.” The same page says “any visit exceeding 30, 60, 90, and 180 days will require a visa and requisite extensions to remain legal in Belize.” What you need on arrival is on our Belize entry requirements for US citizens page.
Conditions of the permit. While on an extension you may not take employment, paid or unpaid; you may not engage in any business or profession without the consent of the Director of Immigration; and you may not remain in Belize beyond the permit’s expiry.
The six-month point for US citizens. Immigration’s country table lists the United States of America as needing no visa unless the stay in Belize is longer than 180 days. The Visitor’s Permit page says persons who require a visa after a predefined number of extended days must acquire that visa. For the nationalities its fee table groups as “all other nationals”, Immigration’s Visa Fees page prints BZ$200.00 for a single-entry visa (valid 6 months) and BZ$300.00 for multiple entry (valid 12 months), effective 1 May 2020 — but that page does not spell out how it applies to a US citizen who passes 180 days. Separately, the State Department says: after 6 months visitors “may need to show extra documents” and “likely need to pay additional fees”.
Every fee on this page is in Belize dollars except the State Department’s; our Belize currency and ATMs page covers the Belize dollar and its exchange rate as the Central Bank of Belize states it.
What we could not establish
- A fee change after 2020. We searched immigration.gov.bz and the Government of Belize Press Office for a later increase and found none; Immigration still prints BZ$200.00 “with effect from 1 May 2020” on a page last modified on 3 December 2020. The page may be out of date; we have no official figure that replaces it.
- The legal instrument. No Statutory Instrument number is printed for the fee, and we did not read the Belize Gazette.
- A US-dollar figure from Belize. Immigration prints none; the 100 USD a month is the State Department’s.
- A separate rate after six months. Whether the fee itself rises past six months of extensions is not stated on the pages we read; the State Department says only that additional fees are likely.
- Office addresses, hours and payment methods. Immigration says its office contact list is being updated and publishes none; no page we read says how the fee can be paid.
How we researched this
On 7 November 2026 we read Belize Immigration’s Visitor’s Permit, Visa Who Qualify, Visa Fees and Contact Us pages, and re-read the Visitor’s Permit and Contact Us pages live in a browser the same day; the Belize Tourism Board’s Visas and Immigration page; the airport operator’s Passenger Info page; and the US State Department’s Belize entry-requirements section, rendered in a browser. We also searched immigration.gov.bz and the Press Office for any newer extension fee. The 2020 page date comes from the Immigration site’s own page data.
