Ambergris Caye and San Pedro: Golf Cart, Ferry and Flight Prices

Verified on 26 August 2026, on three San Pedro rental operators’ own published rate cards, and on the ferry and airline booking engines priced for travel on 16 September 2026.

A four-seat golf cart on Ambergris Caye is advertised at US$30 to US$40 a day and US$175 to US$185 a week across the three San Pedro operators whose rate cards we read on 26 August 2026. Only one of the three says what tax does to that number. Mark’s states that Belize’s 12.5% General Sales Tax is added at payment, turning its US$40 day rate into US$45.00 at the counter. Advanced and GO San Pedro say nothing either way, so whether their rates are before tax or already include it is not published — treat the low end of that range as a headline price, not a total. Six-seaters are advertised at US$60 to US$65 a day. Reaching the island from Belize City costs USD 34.00 by San Pedro Belize Express water taxi (1 hour 30 minutes) or USD 110.00 with Tropic Air (13 minutes, nonstop).

All three operators publish daily rates and list what those rates include, but only one of the three publishes a complete card: Advanced prices four- and six-seaters by the day, the week and the month, while GO San Pedro publishes no monthly rate and Mark’s publishes neither a weekly rate for a stated cart size nor a monthly one. Two prices are missing from this page because nobody publishes them at all: the bridge toll for the north crossing, and a current fare on the north-coast ferry.

What a golf cart costs in San Pedro

These are three separate operators’ own rate cards, all read on 26 August 2026 — not a contradiction, a spread. One naming note, because both names appear elsewhere on this site: the first row is a single business. ambergriscayecartsbelize.com brands itself Ambergris Caye Carts and signs its copyright footer Advanced Golf Cart Rentals; our tipping and prices and where to stay on Ambergris Caye pages call it Ambergris Caye Carts. Three names, three rate cards, three companies — not four. A fourth San Pedro operator, Carts Belize, prices the same four-seater at US$60 a day and is the only one on the island publishing rental, insurance and tax as separate columns; its figures are on our what a Belize trip costs page. Only Mark’s states that tax is added at payment; Advanced and GO San Pedro say nothing either way, so their headline numbers may or may not already include it and the three are not strictly like-for-like.

Advanced publishes every rate in both currencies at the standard 2:1 peg: US$30 / BZ$60 a day, US$185 / BZ$370 a week and US$575 / BZ$1,150 a month for a four-seater.

Mark’s also lists shorter and longer deals — a 3-day deal at US$115 for a four-seater and US$205 for a six-seater, and an “Island Deal” at US$35 a day or US$175 a week. Its rate card does not say which cart size the Island Deal covers.

The multi-day rates, checked at every length

Our arithmetic, on the operators’ own published numbers:

Mark’s two 3-day deals run in opposite directions. On the four-seater, US$115 saves US$5 against three days at its US$40 standard rate. On the six-seater, US$205 is US$10 more than three days at its own US$65 daily rate.

Advanced is the cheapest of the three by the day, at US$30 against GO San Pedro’s US$35 and Mark’s US$40. By the week the ranking cannot be made three ways: only two operators publish a weekly rate for a stated cart size, and between those two Advanced is the dearer — US$185 for seven days against GO San Pedro’s US$175. Mark’s publishes a US$175 weekly “Island Deal” without saying which cart size it covers, so it cannot be placed in that comparison.

What is in the price, and what is not

• Mark’s Cart Rentals rents gas carts only, no electric. The rate includes delivery anywhere in San Pedro, collection, the bridge pass for the north crossing, mechanical inspection, 24-hour mechanic support and a replacement cart if yours fails. It excludes fuel — the cart is returned at the level you got it — and tax.
• Advanced Golf Cart Rental states that delivery and pickup within San Pedro, basic insurance, and a car wash on rentals over 48 hours are included. The bridge pass is included on monthly rentals.
• GO San Pedro Rental states it covers the bridge toll and gives free delivery to San Pedro Town, the airport, the water taxi terminal, or your hotel. Phone +501 611-6625.

The bridge toll

All three operators say the toll is theirs to deal with: Mark’s includes a “bridge pass for the north crossing” in its daily rate, GO San Pedro says it covers the bridge toll, and Advanced includes a bridge pass on monthly rentals. Advanced’s page describes the toll booth as manned Monday through Saturday until about 9pm.

They all omit the amount, and so does everyone else — see the gaps below.

Getting up the north coast by boat

Coastal Xpress runs a regular ferry from Amigos del Mar Dock in San Pedro north to Blue Reef Resort, about 9 miles up the island. The operator has no website. The schedule page hosted on AmbergrisCaye.com carries a notice at the top stating that the schedules on it are not current, and gives +501 226-2007 as the way to get the latest ones. We are not reproducing the fares printed on that page: it dates one of its passes to 2013.

Getting to the island

All three were priced live on 26 August 2026, for one adult travelling one way on Wednesday 16 September 2026.

San Pedro Belize Express’s first boat out of Belize City is 8:00 AM and its last is 5:30 PM. Off the island, the first is 6:00 AM and the last is 4:30 PM — an hour earlier than the last boat to it.

San Pedro Belize Express’s terminal is not at the international airport. That operator sells a shared transfer between the two, USD 25.00 for the first person and USD 10.00 for each additional person, about 25 minutes. One person flying into BZE and continuing on that operator’s ferry therefore pays USD 59, not USD 34.

The town itself

San Pedro Belize Express’s own destination page says the town was settled in the mid-19th century by fishermen and families migrating during the Caste War of Yucatán, and that it gained official township status in 1984. That is an operator’s copy rather than an official history; the 1984 date is the one hard figure in it, and we attribute it rather than state it flatly.

What the operators don’t publish

These are gaps in what the businesses themselves publish. We looked, and the numbers are not there:

• The bridge toll amount for a golf cart. Three rental operators say they cover it; none states what it is, and no current primary source publishes it.
• Whether Advanced’s and GO San Pedro’s headline rates include tax. Of the three operators in the table above, only Mark’s addresses it; off that table, Carts Belize prices tax as a column of its own.
• Which cart size Mark’s “Island Deal” applies to. Without it, Mark’s has no weekly rate that can be compared with anyone else’s.
• Monthly rates from Mark’s and GO San Pedro. Only Advanced prices a month.
• Coastal Xpress’s current timetable and fares. The operator has no website, and the only hosted schedule says on its face that it is not current.
• A taxi tariff for San Pedro from any authority or taxi operator. Two figures do exist, and both come from hotels rather than from anyone driving a taxi: SunBreeze Suites’ guest FAQ puts the airstrip into town at “about US$5.00”, and The Watermark Belize sells a transfer to the same airport at “just $22.50 US one way” — four and a half times the first, for the same journey. Both are on our tipping and prices page. Town councils and transport authorities publish no rate.
• Beer or grocery prices in San Pedro from any menu or shop listing. (A full San Pedro restaurant menu is readable — Elvi’s Kitchen prints lunch at $24–$35, dinner entrees at $45–$55 and cocktails at $16–$20, quoted on our tipping and prices page — but it states no currency and carries no beer section, and no Belize supermarket publishes a price list at all.)
• An official population figure for San Pedro or Ambergris Caye from the Statistical Institute of Belize.

How we researched this

Scope: this page reports source research, not an on-site test. We checked the booking systems, timetables and official sources named below on the date shown; calculations, unresolved disagreements and information we could not verify are labelled explicitly.

We read the three rental operators’ own published rate cards on 26 August 2026, and every inclusion and exclusion above comes from those same pages. The water-taxi fares and durations come from live one-way searches run that day on San Pedro Belize Express’s ticketing system and Caribbean Sprinter’s booking page, for travel on 16 September 2026; the flight fare, flight time and departure count come from Tropic Air’s booking engine on the same query. The ferry departure times come from San Pedro Belize Express’s printed schedule, the airport shuttle price from its FAQ, the toll-booth hours from Advanced’s rate page, the north-coast ferry description from the page hosted on AmbergrisCaye.com, and the 1984 township date from a ferry operator’s destination page.

The break-even arithmetic in the multi-day table is ours, computed at every length from those published rates. Operators publish none.
