Ambergris Caye and San Pedro: Golf Cart, Ferry and Flight Prices

Re-checked on 24 September 2026, on four San Pedro rental operators’ own published rate cards and on both ferry operators’ booking engines, priced for travel on Wednesday 7 October 2026. Tropic Air’s booking engine could not be loaded that day, so its fare below is the one quoted on 26 August 2026.

A four-seat golf cart on Ambergris Caye is advertised at US$30 to US$40 a day and US$175 to US$185 a week across the three San Pedro operators in the table below, whose rate cards we re-read on 24 September 2026. Only one of the three says what tax does to that number. Mark’s states that 12.5 percent tax is added at payment, turning its US$40 day rate into US$45.00 at the counter (our arithmetic). Advanced and GO San Pedro say nothing either way, so their rate pages leave open whether those rates are before tax or already include it — treat the low end of that range as a headline price, not a total. Six-seaters are advertised at US$50 to US$65 a day. Reaching the island from Belize City by water taxi costs a USD 34.00 fare on San Pedro Belize Express (1 hour 30 minutes), which its online checkout raises to USD 39.24 with a processing fee and a port authority fee, or US$35.50–37.00 on Caribbean Sprinter (about 75 minutes), whose booking page says its rates include all fees — both quoted on 24 September 2026 for Wednesday 7 October 2026.

All three operators publish daily rates and list what those rates include, but only one of the three publishes a complete card: Advanced prices four- and six-seaters by the day, the week and the month, while GO San Pedro publishes no monthly rate and Mark’s publishes neither a weekly rate for a stated cart size nor a monthly one. Two prices are missing from this page because none of the sources we read publishes them: the bridge toll for the north crossing, and a current fare on the north-coast ferry.

What a golf cart costs in San Pedro

These are three separate operators’ own rate cards, all re-read on 24 September 2026 — not a contradiction, a spread. The one contradiction is inside a single operator: GO San Pedro’s home page prices its six-seater at US$65 a day, while its own FAQ says “our 6-seater carts are priced at $50 per day or $300 per week”. We print both. One naming note, because both names appear elsewhere on this site: the first row is a single business. ambergriscayecartsbelize.com brands itself Ambergris Caye Carts and signs its copyright footer Advanced Golf Cart Rentals; our tipping and prices and where to stay on Ambergris Caye pages call it Ambergris Caye Carts. Three names, three rate cards, three companies — not four. A fourth San Pedro operator, Carts Belize, prints two different day prices for a four-seater: its home page says “US $79 Per Day”, while its rate card lists 24 hours as US$60.00 rental plus US$5.00 insurance plus US$8.12 tax — US$73.12 in total (both read 24 September 2026). It is the only one of the four operators we read that prints rental, insurance and tax as separate columns. Only Mark’s states that tax is added at payment; Advanced and GO San Pedro say nothing either way, so their headline numbers may or may not already include it and the three are not strictly like-for-like.

Advanced publishes every rate in both currencies at the standard 2:1 peg: US$30 / BZ$60 a day, US$185 / BZ$370 a week and US$575 / BZ$1,150 a month for a four-seater.

Mark’s also lists shorter and longer deals — a 3-day deal at US$115 for a four-seater and US$205 for a six-seater, and an “Island Deal” at US$35 a day or US$175 a week. Its rate card does not say which cart size the Island Deal covers.

The multi-day rates, checked at every length

Our arithmetic, on the operators’ own published numbers:

GO San Pedro’s FAQ also offers “a bonus of 2 days free for weekly rentals” on four-seaters and “1 free day for weekly rentals” on six-seaters, without saying whether those days are added to the week; the table leaves them out.

Mark’s two 3-day deals run in opposite directions. On the four-seater, US$115 saves US$5 against three days at its US$40 standard rate. On the six-seater, US$205 is US$10 more than three days at its own US$65 daily rate.

Advanced is the cheapest of the three by the day, at US$30 against GO San Pedro’s US$35 and Mark’s US$40. By the week the ranking cannot be made three ways: only two operators publish a weekly rate for a stated cart size, and between those two Advanced is the dearer — US$185 for seven days against GO San Pedro’s US$175, and for six-seaters US$340 against the US$300 in GO San Pedro’s FAQ. Mark’s publishes a US$175 weekly “Island Deal” without saying which cart size it covers, so it cannot be placed in that comparison. What is in the price, and what is not

• Mark’s Cart Rentals rents gas carts only, no electric. The rate includes delivery anywhere in San Pedro, collection, the bridge pass for the north crossing, mechanical inspection, 24-hour mechanic support and a replacement cart if yours fails. It excludes fuel — the cart is returned at the level you got it — and tax.
• Advanced Golf Cart Rental states that delivery and pickup within San Pedro, basic insurance, and a car wash on rentals over 48 hours are included, and that “your rental includes a monthly bridge pass for your golf cart”.
• GO San Pedro Rental states it covers the bridge toll and gives free delivery to San Pedro Town, the airport, the water taxi terminal, or your hotel. Phone +501 611-6625.

The bridge toll

All three operators say the toll is theirs to deal with: Mark’s includes a “bridge pass for the north crossing” in its daily rate, GO San Pedro says it covers the bridge toll, and Advanced says every rental includes a monthly bridge pass. Advanced’s page describes the toll booth as manned Monday through Saturday until about 9pm.

They all omit the amount, and so does everyone else — see the gaps below.

Getting up the north coast by boat

Coastal Xpress runs a regular ferry from Amigos del Mar Dock in San Pedro north to Blue Reef Resort, about 9 miles up the island. The operator has no website. The schedule page hosted on AmbergrisCaye.com carries a notice at the top stating that “These schedules are not current”, and gives +501 226-2007 as the way to get the latest ones (re-read 24 September 2026). We are not reproducing the fares printed on that page: it announces a pass “for the 2013 Year”, which dates its contents.

Getting to the island

The two water taxis were priced live on 24 September 2026, for one adult travelling one way on Wednesday 7 October 2026. The Tropic Air row comes from a search run on 26 August 2026 for Wednesday 16 September 2026; on 24 September 2026 Tropic Air’s booking engine showed a CAPTCHA challenge instead of results, so we could not re-price it.

On San Pedro Belize Express’s booking engine for 7 October 2026, the first boat out of Belize City is 8:00 AM and the last is 5:30 PM. Off the island, the first is 6:00 AM and the last is 4:30 PM — an hour earlier than the last boat to it.

San Pedro Belize Express’s terminal is not at the international airport. That operator sells a shared transfer between the two, USD 25.00 for the first person and USD 10.00 for each additional person, about 25 minutes, and offers it at checkout as “Airport (BZE) Transfer Service” at USD 25.00. One person flying into BZE and continuing on that operator’s ferry therefore pays USD 59 in fare and transfer, or USD 64.24 with the two checkout fees as they displayed before the transfer was added (our arithmetic; we did not go through to payment, so we cannot say whether the processing fee is also charged on the transfer), not USD 34.

The town itself

San Pedro Belize Express’s own destination page says the town was settled in the mid-19th century by fishermen and families migrating during the Caste War of Yucatán, and that it gained official township status in 1984. That is an operator’s copy rather than an official history; the 1984 date is the one hard figure in it, and we attribute it rather than state it flatly.

What the operators don’t publish

These are gaps in what the businesses themselves publish. We looked, and the numbers are not there:

• The bridge toll amount for a golf cart. Three rental operators say they cover it; none states what it is, and no other source we read on 24 September 2026 gives the amount.
• Whether Advanced’s and GO San Pedro’s headline rates include tax. Of the three operators in the table above, only Mark’s addresses it; off that table, Carts Belize prices tax as a column of its own.
• Which cart size Mark’s “Island Deal” applies to. Without it, Mark’s has no weekly rate that can be compared with anyone else’s.
• Monthly rates from Mark’s and GO San Pedro. Only Advanced prices a month.
• Coastal Xpress’s current timetable and fares. The operator has no website, and the only hosted schedule says on its face that it is not current.
• A taxi tariff for San Pedro from any authority or taxi operator. What exists is a US$5.00 to US$22.50 range for a ride from the San Pedro airstrip, from two hotels, each quoting the trip to its own door: SunBreeze Suites’ guest FAQ says a taxi from the airstrip costs “about US$5.00” (that FAQ still carries Covid-era entry text, so its age is unclear), and The Watermark Belize sells its own airport transfer at “just $22.50 US one way”. Both re-read 24 September 2026, and both are on our tipping and prices page. We found no rate from a town council or transport authority.
• Grocery prices in San Pedro. We found no Belize supermarket publishing a price list. Restaurant prices do exist: Elvi’s Kitchen’s Lunch Menu 2025 prices its dishes from BZ$20 to BZ$70, and its Dinner Menu 2025 prices entrées from BZ$38 to BZ$75 — both files state that all prices are in Belize dollars and subject to 12.5% sales tax. • An official population figure for Ambergris Caye as a whole. The Statistical Institute of Belize’s Census 2022 settlement table displays San Pedro Town 15,455 people (the cell behind it holds 15,454.78) but has no row for the island (workbook re-read 24 September 2026).

Scope: this page reports source research, not an on-site test. We checked the booking systems, timetables and official sources named below on the date shown; calculations, unresolved disagreements and information we could not verify are labelled explicitly.

We read the three rental operators’ own published rate cards on 26 August 2026 and re-read them, with Carts Belize’s, on 24 September 2026; every inclusion and exclusion above comes from those same pages. The water-taxi fares, checkout fees, durations and departure times come from live one-way searches run on 24 September 2026 on San Pedro Belize Express’s ticketing system and Caribbean Sprinter’s booking page, for travel on 7 October 2026. The flight fare, flight time and departure count come from Tropic Air’s booking engine on 26 August 2026, for travel on 16 September 2026. The airport shuttle price comes from San Pedro Belize Express’s FAQ, the toll-booth hours from Advanced’s rate page, the north-coast ferry description from the page hosted on AmbergrisCaye.com, and the 1984 township date from a ferry operator’s destination page.

The break-even arithmetic in the multi-day table is ours, computed at every length from those published rates. Operators publish none.
